Terms of Reference

Positions: Freelancer Open Call (Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Video editor, Animator)

Duty station: home-based

Expected duration: On a project basis

Rumenaration: On a project basis


General background

ILGA Asia is looking for creative freelance Video Editors, Animators, Graphic Designers, and Illustrators to produce high-quality and visualised materials to expand the organisation’s outreach, both offline and online. 

Selected candidates will be working on ILGA Asia’s reports, policy papers, outreach and advocacy campaigns, and other materials related to LGBTI human rights including its legal framework, standards, mechanisms, and case stories.

The ideal candidates should have relevant experience and skills in delivering audience-engaging multimedia outputs that aim for creating social impact and behavior change. Experience working in the nonprofit sector is desirable. 

The freelancer hired will work under the supervision of and report to ILGA Asia Communications Officer.


Organisational background

ILGA Asia is the Asian Region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association, representing East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and West Asia. The Region was first established in Mumbai in 2002. Our vision is a world where Asia is a safe place for all, where all can live in freedom and equality, be properly informed in the nature of sexual orientation and gender identity & expression and sex characteristic (SOGIESC) rights, have access to justice, and diversity is respected.

 Our missions are:

  • To promote universal respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the elimination of all forms of discrimination and stigmatization based on SOGIESC in Asia and including the specific provisions of the UN conventions and covenants specified in the Constitution of ILGA; 

  • To work for the equality of all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression and sex characteristic, as well as liberation from all forms of discrimination and stigmatization; and

  • To empower and support LGBTI communities, organizations, and individuals in Asia, while encouraging community building and networking.


General Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as communication, graphic design, journalism, social science.

  • Practical experiences in creating audience-engaging communication materials

  • Working proficiency in written and spoken English

  • Fluency in an Asian language is highly desirable

  • Professional affiliations and licenses an asset

  • Formal training on communication an asset

  • Experience working on SOGIESC related issues;

  • Experience working on human rights issues in Asia;


 Specific Qualifications

 Video editor / Animator

  • Professional experience in videomaking, and/or filmmaking, and/or video editing, and/or animation (2D/3D)

  • Professional experience working with a range of voices and styles within messaging and branding guidelines

  • Professional experience in producing multimedia materials for social impact 

  • Ability to translate complex information such as data or reports into an engaging format for the public

  • Experience working with/for the nonprofit sector would be an asset

  • Ability to work under pressure, with less supervision and meet deadlines

 

Graphic designer / illustrator

  • Professional experience in graphic design, and/or illustration, and/or visual art

  • Professional experience working with a range of voices and styles within messaging and branding guidelines

  • Professional experience in creating visualised materials such as infographics, reports, campaign outreach with social impact

  • Ability to translate complex information such as data or reports into an engaging format for the public

  • Experience working with/for the nonprofit sector would be an asset

  • Ability to work under pressure, with less supervision and meet deadlines
