1. Introduction

ILGA Asia is the Asian Region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, representing East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and West Asia. The Region was first established in Mumbai in 2002. Our vision is a world where Asia is a safe place for all, where all can live in freedom and equality, be properly informed in the nature of sexual orientation and gender identity & expression and sex characteristic (SOGIESC) rights, have access to justice, and diversity is respected.

To anticipate the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, Biphobia, and Intersexism, ILGA Asia is announcing a new initiative aiming at supporting the LGBTI community around Asia to use multimedia in telling the world the story of their community, their history and activism.

The objective of the initiative is as follows:

  • Strengthened capacity of LGBTI civil society to produce multimedia products for campaigning and advocacy

  • Increased understanding of the public on SOGIESC diversity

  • Solidarity among LGBTI civil society in Asia through joint development of media products for IDAHOBIT

Over the course of the project, ILGA Asia will provide USD 6,300 in grants resulting in the publication of up to seven (7) video stories.

2. Eligibility, amounts and outputs

Applicants of this initiative are free to choose their theme/topic. ILGA Asia seeks applications for video stories with grant awards up to USD 900. All final video output must be submitted to ILGA Asia no later than 14  May 2021. All final video outputs must be in English, OR must have English subtitles.

3. Submission of expressions of interest

After much consideration, the committee has decided to lower the bar for everyone to join this contest and allow more time for the production of the video. You can just go ahead to produce a video story and share it with us. ILGA Asia will select seven (7) winning videos to award and share on our social media. This means that the new deadline for the submission of the video is Friday, 14 May 1159 AM Indochine Time (ICT). Alternatively, if you feel like you want to keep your current video submission for the pitch as the final video, feel free to let us know. We will accept it as a submission to be considered for the award. Some practical tips on the format of the video submission:

  1. Submissions of the final video should be in a video format no longer than four (4) minutes.

  2. The submission of the final video must be in English OR must have English subtitles. You may add additional subtitles in other languages if it fits to do so.

  3. If you are featuring a person in the video, the person should sit/stand slightly to the right or to the left of the camera, but make sure the eyes are towards the center of the camera.

  4. Lights sources should be either in front or to the side of the subject – never behind their back or above their head!

  5. Film it in landscape (horizontal) mode.

  6. Feel free to show us how creative you are on this video!

The video submission of expressions of interest may be uploaded to Google Drive and shared to ILGA Asia. The video link should be made available to info@ilgaasia.org with the subject “What’s Your Story Applicant [NAME]” by the deadline to be considered.

This expression of interest is NOT the final video story that ILGA Asia supports you to produce. Submission of the expression of interest does not automatically result in receiving the awards from ILGA Asia.

For more inquiries regarding this call, please direct your email to info@ilgaasia.org with the subject “INQUIRY: What’s Your Story”.
